As shown in the image below, Eze leads the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 36 with a score of 11.1. The England international took two shots in the box, both of which were classified as 'big chances' by Opta and also created a 'big chance'.
Amad was the weekend's most creative player with five attempted assists. The 22-year-old also took one shot in the box and landed it on target but registered a low xFPL score of just 4.7.
No player had more shots than H. Wilson, who registered eight attempts, including three from inside the box. However, none were deemed ‘big chances’ by Opta, resulting in a disappointing xFPL score of just 3.9.
Wood led the way for shots in the box with five, but his finishing let him down — only one hit the target. Despite this, two of his efforts were classified as ‘big chances’, helping him to an xFPL score of 7.6.
Muñoz rewarded his backers with an 11-point FPL haul and could have delivered even more. The Colombian international took two shots in the box and created three chances, earning an impressive xFPL score of 8.7.
Meanwhile, Mbeumo — a popular captaincy pick — produced underwhelming numbers. He managed only two shots in the box, and his sole attempted assist was converted by Schade. His xFPL score of 3.7 was the lowest among the players mentioned.
xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.
As shown in the below image from our Transfer Analytics feature, Watkins is currently the most transferred in player with over 80,000 FPL managers bringing him in at the time of writing.
Eze, Beto, and Schade all scored last weekend, boosting their popularity among FPL managers. Wissa also features in the top five most-transferred-in players, despite earning just a single point in Gameweek 36.
Haaland’s return to fitness saw Marmoush benched against Southampton, making him the most-sold player ahead of Gameweek 37 — over 100,000 managers have moved him on.
Meanwhile, Isak, Cunha, B. Fernandes, and Salah all blanked, prompting many managers to seek out differentials for the final two Gameweeks.
As the below image from the Top 10 Forward transfer combinations shows, Marmoush to Watkins (31.8%) is by far the most popular transfer combination across all positions with Isak to Watkins (12.9% in second). Wood, Wissa, Haaland and Beto are some of the other players being bought with Cunha and Mateta also making way.
The Top 10 Midfield transfer combinations are more spread out with Palmer, Bowen, Eze, Schade and Rogers all popular picks. The premium trio of De Bruyne, Saka and Salah are the most sold, while the Newcastle duo of J. Murphy and Barnes are also seeing sales.
The Top 10 Defender transfer combinations are also spread out with no combination over 4%. Everton's final home fixture at Goodison Park against bottom placed Southampton has seen Mykolenko and Branthwaite emerge as the most popular options, with Cucurella and Muñoz also popular. Robinson, N. Williams, Saliba and Milenković are the defenders being sold.
Watkins and Wissa still have plenty to play for as they aim to help their teams secure European qualification. With Rashford sidelined through injury, Watkins’ place as Villa’s main centre-forward is now firmly cemented.
As shown in the Player Heatmaps tool above, Watkins’ minutes and starts were uncertain over the last six Gameweeks due to Rashford’s presence. Despite that, he still managed to score 32 FPL points — just five fewer than Wissa, who played every minute.
Watkins has scored three goals to Wissa’s four, but there’s a notable difference in their underlying stats.
Wissa leads comfortably in shot volume — 19 total shots to Watkins’ nine, with 18 of those inside the box (compared to nine for Watkins), eight on target (vs four), and a much higher xG (3.75 vs 1.72). This edge is understandable, given the Brentford forward has played nearly 200 more minutes.
Creativity has been limited for both, with similarly low xA figures (0.42 for Wissa, 0.37 for Watkins).
Despite the disparity in volume, Watkins has been far more clinical. With more minutes now expected, he could outscore Wissa over the final two Gameweeks and appears to be the stronger FPL option.
