Welcome to our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) guide for Gameweek 36! Each gameweek, we'll highlight the top captaincy picks for your FPL team.
In this blog, the three best Captaincy options for Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 36 are discussed. Picks are in the below format:
Caveat: This projection is made on the assumption that Haaland starts against Southampton.
Haaland has missed a significant portion of the season due to injuries, yet the Norwegian striker still ranks third in the Golden Boot race with 21 goals — behind only Isak (23) and Salah (28).
No forward has taken more shots (103), hit the target more often (58), or had more 'big chances' (39) than the 24-year-old this season.
Manchester City have scored 67 goals so far, with only Liverpool (81) finding the net more frequently. They rank third for total shots (55) and fourth for Expected Goals (xG) at 68.67.
Their opponents, Southampton, have the league's worst defensive record. The Saints have conceded a league-high 82 goals, allowed the most shots (620), and have the highest Expected Goals Conceded (xGC) at 90.60.
Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a score of 7.2 for Haaland.
Mbeumo has racked up 18 goals, eight assists, and 28 FPL bonus points, putting him second only to Salah (330) for total FPL points with 217.
The Cameroon international has been a model of consistency, starting every match for Brentford and being subbed off before the 90th minute just once. No midfielder has played more minutes than his 3,145 this season.
Among midfielders, he ranks sixth for shots in the box (57) and fourth for shots on target (36). Only Semenyo (13.66), Palmer (16.55), and Salah (26.07) surpass him for xG with his total of 12.34.
Mbeumo also ranks fourth for 'big chances' created (16) and fifth for attempted assists (66), highlighting his multiple routes to points — including penalty duties.
As the below image from our Transfer Analytics feature shows, he is currently the fourth most transferred in player this Gameweek.
Brentford have scored 62 goals (sixth) and are ranked eighth for shots on target (166). The Bees are also ranked eighth for 'big chances' (95) and 11th for xG (57.62).
Their opponents Ipswich have conceded 76 goals with only Southampton (82) faring worse. The Tractor Boys are ranked 17th for shots in the box conceded (397) and 18th for xGC (75.60).
Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a score of 5.7 for Mbeumo.
Elanga's total of 139 FPL points trails only Wood (188) amongst Forest players, the 23-year-old is also second amongst their players for both goals (six) and assists (10).
As shown in the below image from our Opta Stats Sandbox, his goal threat numbers are second only to Wood with the New Zealand international faring better for shots on target (33 vs 21), 'big chances' (22 vs nine) and xG (12.51 vs 6.07).
Meanwhile, only Gibbs-White has attempted more assists (48) and created more 'big chances' (eight vs seven).
Forest have scored 54 goals this campaign (11th) and have landed 155 attempts on target (14th). The Nottingham side are ranked 15th for both 'big chances' (64) and xG (46.29).
Their visitors Leicester have conceded 42 goals in away matches with no side conceding more on the road. The Foxes are 20th for shots in the box conceded (215) and 19th for xGC (42.23) in away matches.
Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a score of 4.3 for Elanga.
