FPL Gameweek 3: The Best Captain Choices

Erling Haaland (bha) - Highest Projected Point Scorer

Haaland was the most prolific forward on the road last season, scoring 11 away goals — more than any other striker. He also led the way for shots in the box (50), big chances (22), and Expected Goals (xG: 11.99) in away fixtures.

Man City netted 29 times on their travels, with only Bournemouth (35), Brighton (36), Arsenal (34), Liverpool (34), and Forest (32) scoring more. They also ranked second for shots in the box (223) and third for xG (33.28) in away matches.

As for their hosts, Brighton conceded 26 goals at the Amex (11th-most) and kept just three home clean sheets. Defensively, they ranked 12th for shots in the box conceded (155) and 11th for Expected Goals Conceded (xGC: 27.04).

Chris Wood (WHU) - Highly Projected Points Alternative

Wood picked up where he left off last season with two goals against Brentford in Gameweek 1 and will be looking to add to his tally as Forest host the struggling Hammers at the City Ground.

No Forest player attempted more shots in the box (57) or was afforded more 'big chances' (27) than the New Zealand international last season. As shown in the below image from our Opta Stats Sandbox, he was ranked fifth for xG (9.24) amongst forwards in home matches and sixth for 'big chances' (16).

Forest scored 26 goals in home matches last season (12th), the Nottingham side were ranked 17th for 'big chances' (34) and 14th for xG (26.74).

Their visitors West Ham conceded 28 goals on their travels last season (11th) and kept just five clean sheets. The Hammers were ranked 16th for shots in the box conceded (212) and 11th for xGC (30.26) in away games.

Cody Gakpo - The Differential (ARS)

Gakpo scored 93 FPL points in home matches last season with only B. Fernandes (100) Luis Díaz (110), Palmer (125), Mbeumo (128) and Salah (153) faring better amongst midfielders.

He scored nine goals, racked up three assists and a whopping 22 FPL Bonus Points at Anfield, with only Palmer (26) racking up more bonus in home games.

Liverpool scored 42 goals at Anfield last season with only Man. City (43) faring better on home turf. The Merseyside outfit were ranked third for 'big chances' (61) and third for xG (41.49) in home matches.

Their visitors Arsenal conceded the fewest goals in away matches (17) last season while only Brentford, Palace (seven each), Man. City and Liverpool (eight) kept more clean sheets than their six. The Gunners were also top for shots in the box conceded (122) and xGC (22.24) on their travels.
