Expected FPL (xFPL) Points Review - A look at the stats

As shown in the image below, Ekitiké tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 24 with a score of 14.7. The French international was top for shots (six), shots in the box (five), 'big chances' (four) and shots on target (four).

Stats for Gameweek 24

D. Luiz was the Gameweek’s most creative player with five attempted assists. The Brazilian international also had two shots in the box but registered just one ‘big chance’ involvement overall, which resulted in a modest xFPL score of 4.5.

Xavi impressed against Man City. The Dutch international attempted four assists, two of which were classified as ‘big chances’ created, and also took five shots. He ranked fourth for xFPL (9.1), with only Wirtz (9.7), Konaté (10.7) and Ekitiké (14.7) faring better.

J. Timber owners were unlucky to come away with just five FPL points. The right-back recorded two ‘big chance’ involvements and could easily have returned an attacking haul on another day, as reflected by his xFPL score of 7.9.

Haaland continues to underwhelm. The 25-year-old attempted four assists and took two shots in the box but failed to register a single ‘big chance’ involvement, finishing with an FPL score of just 3.5.

Budget defender Mukiele continues to impress. He took two shots, one of which was classified as a ‘big chance’, and also created a ‘big chance’, resulting in a strong xFPL score of 8.4.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG) and expected assists (xA), which combine to form expected FPL involvements (xG + xA = xI), along with expected clean sheets (xCS). These values are based on underlying statistics — for example, shot type and location determine the probability of scoring, which contributes to xG. xFPL then combines these metrics, factoring in appearance and bonus points to produce an overall expected FPL point score.

Early FPL Transfer Activity Analysed - Which players are FPL managers buying and selling?

As shown in the Transfer Analytics tool below, João Pedro is the most transferred-in player ahead of Gameweek 25, with nearly 350,000 FPL managers adding him to their teams at the time of writing.

Transfer Activity for Fantasy Premier League 2025/26 Gameweek 25

B. Fernandes and Enzo continue to be popular acquisitions, with both midfielders recording FPL returns in three consecutive Gameweeks.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool duo of Ekitiké and Wirtz are also in demand following double-digit hauls against Newcastle.

Blanks in the last three Gameweeks have prompted FPL managers to part ways with Thiago. The 24-year-old is the most-sold player this week, with close to 200,000 transfers out.

Elsewhere, Bruno G, Saka, Foden and Watkins were all absent from their teams’ starting line-ups, which has also seen them sold in significant numbers.

Top 10 forward transfer combintaions

Looking at the top 10 forward transfer combinations, Thiago → João Pedro (23.7%) is the most popular transfer across all positions by a distance, with Watkins → João Pedro (12.6%) in second. Ekitiké, Bowen and Kroupi are also popular with Calvert-Lewin and Marc Guiu the other forwards making way.

As the top 10 midfield transfer combinations shows, Saka → B.Fernandes (12.3%) is the most popular transfer with the England international currently an injury doubt for the weekend. Bruno G., Rogers and Palmer are the other midfielders being sold with Enzo, Rice, Mbeumo and WIrtz the popular acquisitions.

The defender transfer combinations are fairly scattered but nine of the top 10 involve selling the injured Dorgu. Most FPL managers are opting for budget replacements like Senesi, Richards, Dalot, Cash and Hill but Gabriel, J.Timber, Chalobah and Tarkowski remain popular.

Best Saka replacements - Wirtz vs Semenyo

Semenyo has started every league match for Man City since his move to the Etihad. The Ghanaian international has accumulated 17 FPL points over the last six Gameweeks, compared with 24 for the impressive Wirtz over the same period.

Player Points Comparison

As the above image from our Player Heatmaps feature shows, Wirtz has averaged 8.0 FPL points per game over the last three Gameweeks while Semenyo has managed 5.7. Both players have started every game for their respective sides.

As the above numbers show, both players have scored two goals over the aforementioned period, but Wirtz (1.19) is ahead of Semenyo (0.74) for 'Expected Goals' (xG) (0.74).

There's not much to split them in terms of shot volume, with Wirtz marginally ahead for shots (seven vs six) but behind for shots in the box (four vs five).

However, when it comes to creativity Wirtz has the edge with seven attempted assists compared to just two for Semenyo, and appears to have more routes to points.

Both players appear to be excellent picks, with the German international finally delivering on his early season promise while Semenyo has settled in seamlessly at his new club.
