Expected FPL Points Review - A look at the stats

As shown in the image below, Gomez tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 10 with a score of 12.7. The 22-year-old was heavily involved in attack, taking three shots in the box – two of which were classed as 'big chances' – and also attempting two assists.

Stats for Gameweek 10

João Pedro found the back of the net after numerous blanks, the Brazilian international landed five attempts on target, more than any other player. Three of these efforts were classified as 'big chances' by Opta and he could have had a much bigger haul, as his xFPL score of 12.2 suggests.

Haaland was joint-top with João Pedro for 'big chances' (three), the Norwegian international was top for shots in the box (six) and notched an xFPL score of 11.0.

Saka owners can consider themselves unlucky, both of the England international's attempts in the box were classified as 'big chances' which led to an xFPL score of 8.8.

Enzo's owners were similarly unfortunate, the Argentinian international's header from close range was deemed a 'big chance' by Opta and he also had none of his four attempted assists converted. He registered an xFPL score of 6.7.

Budget midfielder Xhaka notched an xFPL score of 6.9, he was joint-top for attempted assists (five) and found the back of the net with a long range effort.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG) and expected assists (xA), which combine to form expected FPL involvements (xG + xA = xI), along with expected clean sheets (xCS). These values are based on underlying statistics — for example, shot type and location determine the probability of scoring, which contributes to xG. xFPL then combines these metrics, factoring in appearance and bonus points to produce an overall expected FPL point score.

Early FPL Transfer Activity Analysed - Which players are FPL managers buying and selling?

As shown in the Transfer Analytics tool below, Mateta is the most transferred-in player ahead of Gameweek 11, with more than 250,000 FPL managers bringing him into their teams at the time of writing.

Transfer Activity for Fantasy Premier League 2025/26 Gameweek 11

Rice, Gabriel and Caicedo all bagged double-digit hauls over the weekend and are in the top four for transfers in.

Mbeumo's blank against Forest was not enough to deter FPL managers, the Cameroon international is the fifth most transferred in player with nearly 150,000 FPL managers bringing him in.

Kudus has been sold by nearly 200,000 FPL managers after Spurs' poor showing against Chelsea. While the trio of Reijnders, Woltemade and Gyökeres are also being sold after limited minutes over the weekend.

Top 10 forward transfer combintaions

A look at the Top 10 forward transfer combinations shows that Gyökeres to Mateta (20.3%) and Woltemade to Mateta (16.9%) are by some distance the most popular transfer combinations this week. Thiago, Welbeck and João Pedro are also being bought.

The Top 10 midfield transfer combinations are dominated by the duo of Rice and Caicedo with the pair accounting for half of the Top 10 combinations. Sarr, Mbeumo and Enzo are the other popular midfield acquisitions with Reijnders, Kudus and Saka making way.

In defence, the Top 10 transfer combinations are dominated by Gabriel with all of them involving bringing the Brazilian international in. Van de Ven, Gudmunsson, Senesi, Virgil and even his team-mates Calafiori and J.Timber are being sold to make way for the centre-back.

Best Budget Midfielder - Rice vs Caicedo

Despite being relatively unpopular options at the start of the season, Rice (63) and Caicedo (58) sit in the top three midfielders for FPL points over the first 10 Gameweeks. The pair have notched five goals and three assists between them.

Points Per game for Rice and Caicedo

As shown in the Player Heatmaps feature, Rice has averaged 6.3 FPL points per game during that period, while Caicedo has averaged a slightly lower 5.8.

Stats Comparison Rice vs Caicedo

The underlying numbers for goal threat are similar with nine shots for Rice and 10 for Caicedo, but overall they are not great. Though they have scored five goals their combined 'Expected Goals' (xG) tally is under 2.0 which indicates that the returns might not be sustainable in the long term.

In terms of creativity, Rice's set piece duties give him the edge. The England international has attempted 17 assists to Caicedo's five and has created three 'big chances' compared to just one for the Ecuadorian international.

Rice appears to be the better pick of the two, but FPL managers also have to consider whether they want to occupy an Arsenal slot with the midfielder when the Gunners have such outstanding options in defence.
