Data from the Fix Heatmaps feature is used from Gameweek 30, as Alexander-Arnold was playing in midfield at the time and will likely do so again in the new campaign. The right-back scored 60 points compared to just 28 for Robertson at left-back over that period, a huge difference.
The heatmap highlights Alexander-Arnold's advanced role, with Robertson often playing as left-sided centre-back in a back three. The latter still did get forward at times though and took most of Liverpool's corners down one side.
Alexander-Arnold's numbers were hugely impressive, with 15 shots compared to just one for Robertson. He registered seven assists, compared to just two for the latter, and beat him significantly for both attempted assists (23 vs 13) and 'big chances' created (nine vs three). Based on this data, Alexander-Arnold looks worth the hefty price tag, but it remains to be seen what impact Szoboszlai will have on his set piece duties.
Despite their defensive difficulties, the Liverpool defence still posted decent underlying numbers as shown in the image from the Stats Sandbox feature below.
Only Newcastle (244), Arsenal (244) and Man. City (198) restricted opponents to fewer shots in the box than the Merseyside outfit (274) so their defence is still worth investing in.
