Something strange is happening in the Fantasy Premier League app – and we might be on the brink of one of the biggest squad structure changes ever... or maybe someone at FPL HQ just needs a second coffee.
With FPL 2025/26 launch just around the corner, eagle-eyed managers have spotted new screenshots on the App Store showing off the updated look of the game. But one image in particular has puzzled the FPL community.
In the updated squad screenshot (labelled Gameweek 1), the team is lined up in a 3-4-3 formation – nothing out of the ordinary there. But here's where things get weird...
On the bench are one defender, one midfielder and one forward. That's right – the total squad includes:
If this isn’t just a design error, it would be a seismic shift in how we build our squads. With an extra forward spot and one fewer defender, formation flexibility would completely change, not to mention how bench strength would be managed.
But let’s be honest… it’s almost definitely a mistake. Still, for a brief moment, we were living in a wild world of all out attack, and we kind of loved it.
Meanwhile, in news that is confirmed, there’s been a major update to the Premier League’s partnership with Microsoft.
According to the official statement:
“Microsoft AI will also be included within the app and website’s enhanced Fantasy Premier League experience, giving every fan their own personal assistant manager to help them steer their Fantasy squad to victory.”
That’s right – AI is coming to the FPL app. Whether this means suggested transfers, real-time chip advice, or just a helpful nudge when you forget your team, remains to be seen. But it sounds like managers will now have a digital assistant on their side throughout the season.
Of course, if you’ve been using Fantasy Football Fix for a while, you’ll know this isn’t exactly new tech. Our very own ChatFPL tool has already been offering AI-driven FPL support – helping managers make better, more data-backed decisions with ease.
It’s nice to see the official game catching up 😉
