If you need a replacement, there are lots of options – but three midfielders stand out as the best picks depending on your budget and strategy: Antoine Semenyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Alex Iwobi.
Let’s take a closer look!
The 25-year-old Ghanaian forward-turned-midfielder has been Bournemouth’s standout player this season.
Across three matches, Semenyo has scored 2 goals from 10 shots, with 4 on target and 9 inside the box. His underlying numbers are impressive – an xG of 2.37 (all non-penalty), highlighting his consistent goal threat. He's averaging a very impressive 7.7 points per game so far, as shown in the Opta Heatmaps feature.
Creatively, he has chipped in with 1 assist from 5 attempted key passes, though he hasn’t yet created a big chance.
With Bournemouth’s fixtures looking promising, Semenyo is the ideal pick if you’ve got extra funds in the bank and want a reliable attacking return.
The 26-year-old Englishman has made an instant impact since joining Everton. Despite being the cheapest option of the three, he’s proving to be more than just a budget filler.
In three matches, he’s registered 1 goal and 1 assist from just 1 shot and 8 attempted key passes.
While his xG of 0.07 shows he’ might not be a major goal threat, however, his xA of 1.25 and 3 big chances created underline his creativity.
Everton rank seventh for attacking difficulty in the Fixture Planner. Up next is Aston Villa who, despite being a tough opponent in previous seasons, sit second from bottom after three games with just one point and no goals scored. They even conceded three at home to Palace last time out. After that comes the Merseyside derby against Liverpool – obviously a tougher fixture – but Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s low price makes him easy to bench. Everton then face West Ham, who have conceded a joint league-high eight goals.
Dewsbury-Hall is a great option for managers looking to free up funds while still keeping some attacking potential in midfield. If you’re more interested in his teammate Jack Grealish, we compared the two in yesterday’s Who To Target article.
The 29-year-old Nigerian international is very much a fixtures-based pick, with Fulham sitting top of the Fixture Planner for the next three Gameweeks. They face newly promoted Leeds, then Brentford at home, before a trip to Aston Villa – whose defensive struggles we’ve already highlighted.
Across three appearances (240 minutes), Iwobi has yet to score but has produced 1 assist from 4 key passes, posting an xA of 0.64. From a goal threat perspective, he’s taken 5 shots (3 inside the box, 1 on target), generating an xG of 0.12.
While not explosive, Fulham are projected to score over three goals in the next two Gameweeks according to the Predicted Points & Stats tool – a tally bettered only by Liverpool with over four. That makes Iwobi an intriguing mid-priced option, particularly with those back-to-back home fixtures against Leeds and Brentford.
