We take a quick look at the Fixture Planner tool to explore when might be the best time to play your chips in the first half of the season. With 8 chips available, including two sets of Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain, and Bench Boost chips, planning ahead is key.
With the new chip setup, the Triple Captain chip can now be used in either half of the season, giving you more opportunities to rake in points.
A key strategy will be targeting promoted clubs, which tend to struggle defensively. Erling Haaland, for instance, faces Burnley in Gameweek 6, and Leeds United, and Sunderland at home in the first half of the season, making him a prime candidate for the Triple Captain chip. Similarly, Mohamed Salah has favourable home fixtures against Sunderland (GW14) and Leeds (GW19).
By using the chip on big-hitting forwards or midfielders facing weaker defences, you can rack up major points early in the campaign.
The Bench Boost chip could be a game-changer this season, especially when all 15 of your players have favourable fixtures.
One strategic option could be to play it in Gameweek 1, allowing you to start the season strong without the usual mid-season complications.
By carefully monitoring pre-season friendlies and players’ form, you can ensure that your bench is stacked with in-form players ready to rack up points.
The addition of defensive contribution points in FPL means that even budget defenders and midfielders could deliver solid returns, further improving the value of using Bench Boost early on.
The Free Hit chip offers another layer of flexibility. For example, if you own Salah and Haaland in Gameweek 11, you might be hesitant to start both due to a difficult head-to-head clash.
Instead, you can deploy the Free Hit chip and refresh your squad, adding players with more favourable fixtures.
Using it during key Gameweek 11, you could load up on Forest, West Ham and Arsenal players who face the three promoted teams.
Now is the perfect time to follow the Elite XI: Team Reveal managers. With eight chips at your disposal, every decision counts.
These top-tier managers, with over 70 top 10k finishes between them, will guide you on which chips to play and when, helping you maximise your points in 2025/26.
