After enduring a disastrous start to the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League season, Elite XI: Team Reveal’s Corey Baker pulled off a remarkable recovery, finishing 8,587th overall — his fifth career Top 10k finish.
We caught up with Corey to reflect on the key moments that shaped his season, from tactical masterstrokes to those unavoidable FPL heartbreaks.

Every manager has one — the player who promised so much, only to deliver frustration. For Corey, Dominic Solanke tops the list.
“He started with great underlying numbers but underperformed, then finally started delivering before getting injured repeatedly,” Corey explained. “Had he stayed fit, he might’ve ended up one of the players of the season.”
Looking at Solanke’s stats in the Opta Heatmaps tool, he scored just 9 goals from an expected 11.86, despite registering 25 shots on target. It’s easy to see why Corey labelled him a troll — especially after his high-profile summer move to Spurs.
He also name-checked Cole Palmer, Jackson, and Madueke for inconsistent returns, along with early-season under-the-radar threats like Ismaila Sarr and Semenyo, who flashed promise without delivering consistently.
Several big-name assets failed to justify their price tags, according to Corey.
“Foden and De Bruyne lacked the minutes certainty. Ødegaard was overpriced without set-piece duties, and Trippier was never going to play enough to earn his premium defender price.”
Foden managed just 10 attacking returns in 2024/25, with De Bruyne on 13 and Ødegaard 11. As highlighted in the Fix Comparison Matrix tool, all three had far more productive 2023/24 campaigns. It’s a timely reminder that reputation and price don’t always translate to FPL points.
Though Corey admits he didn’t find many true differentials, a few players became personal legends in his squad.
Matheus Cunha scored 89 points in 10 GWs when Corey owned him — the exact same as he managed in his other 23 matches combined.
Bryan Mbeumo was a key player in Corey’s early turnaround and starred in his GW33 bench boost.
Mbeumo truly had a standout season. His 6.2 FPL points per game — as shown in the Opta Heatmaps tool — was second only to Salah, who averaged 9.0 in his record-breaking campaign, racking up a monstrous 344 FPL points in total.
Ola Aina provided clean sheets, bonuses and budget value early in the campaign.
And the turning point? Swapping Haaland forSalah in GW10, a move that sparked a run from 1.7 million to 45k in eight gameweeks.
“That Salah move changed my season. It gave me the momentum to finish strong.”
Like every FPL campaign, Corey’s season was filled with some dramatic ups and downs.
Asked which price tags he’s most eagerly awaiting, Corey gave us a shortlist of players he thinks could explode if priced right:
The mid-season introduction of the Assistant Manager chip stirred controversy, and Corey wasn’t a fan of the timing — or the variance.
“It changed chip planning entirely and added too much luck. Table bonuses were unpredictable — one random result could swing it massively.”
While he found the concept interesting, he believes it needs refining if it’s to return next season.
Corey Baker’s FPL season was a masterclass in resilience, timing, and trusting your instincts. After sinking to 1.7 million overall, he battled back to secure yet another Top 10k finish — proof that even the toughest starts can be turned around with smart planning and a bit of luck.
