In this blog, the striker options in the 7.0 - 7.5 bracket are analysed using the Fix Comparison Matrix. Averages are used since C. Wilson missed a large chunk of the season due to injury.
Watkins tops the comparison for shots on target (SoT) (0.9) and the Villa forward fares well in the other metrics as well, coming in joint-second for 'big chances' (0.5). As the below image from our Fixture Analyser shows, Villa have a great opening run of fixtures and the 26-year-old is one of the first names on the team sheet under Gerrard.
After a strong start to the 2021/22 campaign, Antonio struggled to find the back of the net regularly and became more of a link-up player which is shown in the numbers. He tops the comparison for FPL assists (0.3) and attempted assists (1.3) with Bowen the benefactor of his creative play. His shot numbers (2.3) were still healthy, second only to Toney (2.7). Once the opening day fixture against Man. City is out of the way, the next three games against Forest, Brighton and Villa look appealing.
Toney is arguably the star of the comparison, the Brentford forward is top for FPL points (4.2), goals (0.4), shots (2.7), SoT (0.9) and attempted assists (1.3). He is also joint-second for 'big chances' (0.5). However, a huge chunk of his goals came at the tail-end of the season when Eriksen was pulling the strings in midfield. In the Dane's absence, Toney might struggle for service and be forced to operate in a deeper role like the first half of the campaign.
Jiménez fares poorly in the comparison, the Mexican international is bottom for FPL points (3.0), goals (0.2), shots (1.7), SoT (0.5) and 'big chances' (0.4). The creative aspect of his game has also suffered with just 1.1 attempted assists per game. Wolves are top of the Fixture Planner, as shown above, for the first four weeks so he could be a punt worth taking.
C. Wilson's season was interrupted by multiple injuries but the forward posted strong numbers when he was on the pitch. He is top for FPL points (4.2), goals (0.4) and 'big chances' (0.6). The fact that he is bottom for attempted assists (0.6) underlines the fact that he is very much an out and out goal scorer. In the second half of the campaign, Newcastle were much improved under Howe and a strong season can be expected from C. Wilson.
