Gameweek 30

In a Gameweek where the difference between a green or red arrow was probably determined by getting captaincy correct, Daniel Boije hit 60 points giving him a small green arrow up to 220k.

2022/23 has been a frustrating season for our Elite XI manager – who has racked up a Top 1k finish, 3 x Top 5 finishes and 5 x Top 10k finishes in an impressive career. Daniel was ranked at 419k in Gameweek 28, but a highly successful Gameweek 29 – in which he deployed his Bench Boost chip to good effect – has turned his fortunes around.

Daniel made just one transfer ahead of Gameweek 30, which was bringing back Erling Haaland (£12.2m) for Ivan Toney (£7.7m). According to Transfer Analytics, this was the most popular transfer combination in the game, accounting for 9.5% of all transfers. Putting the armband on Haaland gave Daniel the edge over the 42% of managers (in the Top 100k) who opted for someone else – data from Live Insight.

Returns from the ever-reliable Ollie Watkins (£7.6m) and Harry Kane (£11.7m) made it 3 out of 3 for Daniel’s front line in what was otherwise a Gameweek to forget for most.

A green week is always welcome, although it was a very small arrow. Basically, all points were scored by my forwards. Haaland showed once again why he is as close to a “must have” as you can get this season. Getting in Haaland and captaining him was always the plan. Glad it worked out. The bench was a bit of a lottery and unfortunately, both benched players outscored my picks this time. These coin flips are just part of the game and there is not much to be done. You win and you lose some. Rashford’s injury was one negative but since he is almost 100% owned, it’s not a massive setback.
