Born in Spain, Torres joined the Valencia academy in 2006 at the age of six. He made his league debut for the first team in December 2017, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to play in La Liga. He then made his Champions League debut in October 2018 against Young Boys. He became Valencia’s youngest ever scorer in the Champions League with his strike against Lille in a 4-1 win, and also scored his first league goal against Celta Viga as a substitute in January 2019. The Spaniard also became the Valencia’s youngest ever player to register 50 league appearances in November 2019 at just 19 years and 324 days. Torres was a member of the 2017 Euro Under-17 Championship winning squad with Spain and then reached the final of the U-17 World Cup later that year. He then featured for the Spanish U-19 and U-21 sides in major tournaments, scoring 11 goals across the three levels.

Man. City were always likely to reinforce in wide areas after the departure of Sané to Bayern Munich. Known for his pace, creativity, technique and his close control at speed, the Spaniard also offers an aerial presence with a height of 1.84m. Though he is predominantly a right winger, he is capable of playing in any position across the front three, even featuring as centre forward on occasions. Like the aforementioned German, his pace is likely to pose problems for defenders and he is more of a traditional winger than Sterling or Mahrez. His numbers would indicate that he is still very much a raw talent who will take time to adapt to Guardiola’s demanding methods. He is likely to be used as an impact substitute initially as he gets used to the rigours of the Premier League but is one to watch for as the season progresses.
