Born in Zambia in 1998, Daka was signed by Red Bull Salzburg on a five year deal after impressing on a trial spell. Already an international by the age of 16, he made his debut for the Salzburg first team in 2019/20 where he made 31 league appearances. He notched 24 goals and eight assists in his debut season and managed to better that in the subsequent campaign, registering 27 goals and seven assists. He ended the season as the top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga and was also voted their player of the season. These impressive performances led to Leicester signing the striker on a five year deal for a fee of £23m.
Daka’s underlying numbers last season were very impressive, the striker averaged a goal involvement every 68 minutes. He averaged 4.66 shots and 2.21 shots on target per match but the question remains how much of this can be sustained with the massive jump in level from the Austrian Bundesliga to the Premier League. A pacy forward, he is likely a long term replacement for Vardy with the Foxes’ talisman reaching 34 years of age this season. He could be fielded wide initially in Rodgers’ system to make up for the absence of H. Barnes and is unlikely to displace either Vardy or Iheanacho from their preferred position early doors. A wait and watch approach is suggested initially with the Zambian international but he could take minutes off either Iheanacho or Vardy which is something FPL managers need to watch out for.
