Born in Brazil in December 1992, Telles started his career at Juventude where he played for a year before moving to Gremio in 2013. He was signed by Turkish club Galatasaray in June 2014 for a fee of  €6 million where he made 39 appearances, scoring two goals and creating three. He was loaned to Italian side Inter for the 2015/16 campaign in which he made 21 appearances, notching just one assist. In July 2016, he was signed by Porto for a fee of €6.5 million. He went on to make 129 appearances for the Portuguese side, registering 21 goals and 40 assists.

There are no issues in terms of match fitness for Telles, the fullback played three league games for Porto in the 2020/21 campaign before signing for Man. Utd. On paper, Telles goal involvement numbers from last season (11 goals, eight assists) are staggering. However, it is worth mentioning that eight of those 11 goals were penalties and six of his eight assists came from corners. With B. Fernandes taking spot kicks and corners for the Manchester side, it is unlikely Telles can provide that level of output from open play. He should slot straight into the Man. Utd side at the expense of Shaw and arguably offers more attacking potential than Maguire or Wan-Bissaka at a similar price.
